booting uplos from usb - any ideas ?

booting uplos from usb - any ideas ?
Sadly my old over 10 year old laptop is beyond repair Sad

have recently bought a new (cheap) laptop as it was the only one I could afford.
It's a Lenovo 130s.
has motherboard limitations, so, even though it's 64-bit it can only take 4 GB RAM !

Aha ! might as well run uplos on it, right ?

have tried quite a few distro's, all live-usb sticks done with "Rufus" - they all boot, except
uplos, I just get a black screen with nothing happening...

Any advice would be much appreciated Smile

Probably not, because is new.
Probably new kernel and new graphic (driver) is needed. (have black screen)
" It was developed by Lenovo in the United States in 2015. " https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IdeaPad#Id...100_Series
We have ISO / drivers which remember 2015-2016
However menu and boot splash you should see, or drivers are needed.

Edited.
If you want test, try create bootable USB other way.
This is a bit complicated ...
- you must disable uefi (secure mode)
- downloaded ISO must be rebuild to hybrid ISO
- then try use other software, for example dd for create bootable USB.
But does it make sense without drivers ?

Try with unetbootin. Only a warning, do not try to install uplos from first splash, await all system wake up

@tele

yes, I think I understand what you mean !
tried making usb with "dd", still no success, black screen.
Had enabled "legacy support" in bios and disabled 'secureboot' too, but the
graphics card is from 2017, only supported in kernel 4.15 or higher...

It would not make sense to use uplos.

Will try and ask friends or family if they have an old laptop they do not need...

I think you can boot adding vesa driver, remove nomodeset at bootline and replace with xforcevesa.

This one?

I see
Storage Up to 64 GB eMMC
the keyword is eMMC. Might also give you problems.

So you probably have to try something like

My one experiment

If this is UHD Graphics 600
- Yes, is from 2017 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_In...sing_units
- And support 4.5 OpenGL , but Uplos have Mesa 11.2.0 which support only OpenGL 4.1 and is from 2016
https://www.mesa3d.org/relnotes/11.2.0.html
- Intel probably not support VESA driver.
So, graphic card need new drivers.

- CPU ( Intel N4000 ) is also from 2017, but I can not find which kernel it support. ( Development: Version 4.13 is from 2017 )
Edited
N4000 with kernel 4.15.0 worked https://openbenchmarking.org/result/1809...NPACKLIN76

But he need it on new ISO, with new kernel, but we have only max 4.8 in repository.
It's easier to install other, newer linux distro.
It does not have to be 64bit, but newer.
I'm sorry, but Uplos is for older equipment.
- Arch32 have kernel 4.9
- Sparky have kernel 4.20 https://sparkylinux.org/download/rolling/
( I know about kernel from PackageList.txt - kernel have name"linux-image" )
- Puppy Linux ~ 4.9
- Mageia 6.1 have kernel 4.9 ~ 4.14.70

Edit.
Warning: Newer hardware usually does not contain Windows stickers with key.
https://www.digitalcitizen.life/how-lear...-activated
If will active, this will allow you to come back to Windows without key, if you will need it.
ISO's are on microsoft website.

RE: booting uplos from usb - any ideas ?
Thanks for all your help !!

I think Sparky (rolling) might be best, have downloaded the i686-pae version.

Also downloaded windows 8.1 and 10 iso's (just in case)...

Sadly, the laptop only has 32 GB eMMC HD, otherwise I would run uplos in VBox.
