A good way to the end of 32bit
So if you read this, I always have more difficulties to found 32bit source, firefox, libreoffice, google chrome.......main applications abbandon 32bit. I think that the right way is to build last source, testers can do their work and give us what is wrong or not and then, after put all packages to updates, freeze all.

RE: A good way to the end of 32bit
As long as Gentoo supports 32 bit, there must be source code available ?

RE: A good way to the end of 32bit
interesting maybe: https://www.calculate-linux.org/main/en/cls

"Calculate Linux from Scratch" , customizable live cd, which is installable, compatible
with gentoo 32 bit.

RE: A good way to the end of 32bit
I can not rebuild if source is only 64bit, package does not work. I need 32bit source or noarch. Even gentoo or calculate will not be able to build libreoffice 6.3, last 32bit source is 6.2
I had a look of a good alternative for 32bit, best for me is Alt Linux

RE: A good way to the end of 32bit
I will try to write a little more accurately.
Most software is provided as a source code to compile.
The source code can usually be compiled into any architecture.
The GNU GPL license apps allow you to repair and compile for build the app.
It concerns Firefox, Virtualbox, LibreOffice.
When the owner provides built application ( binary file), then
we can not modify and rebuild the program in a safe and simple way.
( it is even impossible for a simple developer )
Sometimes, other license also prohibits. ( proprietary software )
If you looking something other like Chrome, you can find Chromium.
( Strange, the chrome license leads to chromium. I probably have bad licenses. )
Sometimes exist also dependencies:
Google does not provide Chrome 32bit binary package,
Valve use Chrome inside Steam 32bit and they must remove old Chrome from Steam for 32bit system (for security reasons).
Why they want use other web browser? I don't know. (Maybe they don't want. It's not my business)

Something else.
Firefox, Virtualbox, LibreOffice they also delivered ready packages to install for each bigger linux distribution
When Virtualbox will end support this package for 32bit,
you can always compile / build package alone.
If they will removed, we will need build own binary (*.rpm ) packages.

RE: A good way to the end of 32bit
Ah, ok.
Now I understand.
Building everything from Source is even more work I guess...

Maybe it's time to think about which software really needs to be in the Repo's and
which has to go ?

RE: A good way to the end of 32bit
More problems will with kernel, if will abandoned earlier.
I can not now find a reference which ( i*86 ) last architecture was dropped in kernel.
But you can check this
http://www.wikiwand.com/en/X86
https://www.debian.org/ports/index.en.html (last is i386)
Anyway, for the old hardware is not the most important new kernel,
but there are important security updates and bugfixes for old version kernel.

Edited.
The new kernel can strive to combine technology and remove important things for some hardware.
A larger number of supported instructions can also slow down the system a bit.

https://www.kernel.org/category/releases.html

So, 3.16 is still supported until April 2020.

Then ? Kernel 4.4 will be supported until Feb 2022 (but for i686 or higher ?)

Some old hardware will become obsolete, but then some newer hardware will be old hardware.

here a Reference: https://linuxnews.2daygeek.com/2016/05/0...e-support/

RE: A good way to the end of 32bit
Rebuild libreoffice is not easy, many buildrequires we have not. Now I have a problem with libappstream-glib-devel, we have but dependencies are very old, I'll try to rebuild it with new dependencies or upgrade to a new version
Edit <very strange, today I installed our appstream-glib-devel without any issue, rebuilding in progress>
